We separate calculation logic from unsupported claims. Sources are used for safety, energy formulae and general cooking principles.

About the editor

Sources and evidence policy

Sources are used to support safety framing, energy-cost context, search-quality standards and editorial policy. The calculator itself is a transparent rule-based tool, not a claim that every food row has been independently tested.

  • Use the calculator as guidance.
  • Check food early.
  • Contact us with corrections or useful food examples.

Primary source areas

Food safety

Used for safety framing, hygiene cautions and the need to check food is cooked through.

Energy cost

Used for UK energy context; the calculator still lets users enter their own p/kWh rate.

Search quality

Used to avoid fake expertise, doorway pages, misleading schema and search-only content.

Calculator method

Internal rule-based conversion, disclosed as calculated guidance unless testing evidence is shown.

Source mapping

Each major claim type should be tied to the right source type instead of using a general source list as decoration.

  • Food safety wording is checked against FSA/GOV.UK cooking guidance. Numeric values are labelled as official temperature-time options or general thermometer guidance.
  • Energy cost uses the standard wattage x time x p/kWh formula and an editable UK rate.
  • Search and content policy decisions follow people-first, non-deceptive Google guidance.

What still needs stronger evidence

The testing system is ready, but the largest trust gap remains the absence of published physical cooking batches.

  • Add test logs for priority foods such as chicken breast, chips, sausages and frozen breaded items.
  • Record appliance brand, wattage, drawer style, food weight, starting state and final centre temperature.
  • Mark tested data separately from calculated data so users and search engines are not misled.

No fake authority

The site should never imply official endorsement, professional dietetic review or laboratory testing unless that evidence exists and is visible.
