About the editor

Air fryer baking needs lower heat and close top-colour checks

Small bakes suit an air fryer better than tall cakes or wide trays. The top sits close to the element and can brown before the centre sets. Use a correctly sized oven-safe tin, leave airflow around it, and test the centre rather than judging the crust.

What to check

  • Confirm the tin and liner are allowed by the appliance manual.
  • Lower the heat if the top colours before the centre sets.
  • Do not let paper liners rise toward the element when empty.

FAQ

Quick answers

Should I preheat?

Preheating can help with short cooks and crisp foods, but follow your model manual when it gives specific advice.

Why do foods have ranges?

Ranges are more honest than one fixed number because portion size and basket crowding matter.

What should I do with meat or leftovers?

Check the centre and use a thermometer where possible. Browning outside is not enough.
