Fan Oven to Air Fryer Calculator

Fan ovens already move hot air, so their instructions need a gentler conversion than conventional oven recipes.

Best forOven, fan oven, packet and frozen-food instructions.

Safety
Chicken breast: use 75C in the centre as the practical target. This matches an FSA/GOV.UK temperature-time option of 75C for 30 seconds, but packet instructions and appliance manuals still take priority. Use a clean food thermometer when you can.

£0.13 per cook, about £0.66 for 5 uses

A 2500W oven for the original time is roughly £0.26.

This result starts by lowering oven temperature, shortening time, then adjusting for the food, frozen state, air fryer style and model. Fan oven instructions need a smaller temperature drop than conventional oven instructions. Times vary by thickness. Use a food thermometer for best results. Brand alone does not justify a timing change; use the exact model, drawer style and your own repeated results.

Fan oven settings need a smaller temperature change

A fan oven already circulates hot air, so applying the full conventional-oven reduction can make the air fryer setting too low. Enter the fan temperature, not the conventional temperature printed beside it, and use the early check because the air fryer chamber is still smaller and more concentrated.

Check before using the result

  • Do not convert the packet's conventional value when you selected fan oven.
  • Keep temperature and time from the same instruction column.
  • Expect short cooks to need especially close checking.
Why airflow changes cooking time

Examples

What a result looks like.

Chicken breast180C for 16-19 min

Check from 14 min.

Chicken thighs, bone-in180C for 23-28 min

Check from 20 min.

Chicken wings190C for 22-27 min

Check from 18 min.

How to use this tool

  • Use the fan oven temperature from the recipe.
  • Expect a smaller temperature drop.
  • Check early because basket air fryers are more concentrated.

Plain safety rule

Treat every result as a starting point. Check early, leave space for airflow, and use a food thermometer for meat, fish and reheated food.

FAQ

Quick answers

Should I enter the fan or conventional temperature?

Enter the fan temperature and the time printed with it. Do not mix values from two packet columns.

Why is the temperature drop smaller?

A fan oven already circulates hot air, so it normally needs a gentler conversion than a conventional oven.

Is the result exact?

No. Use the early check because basket size, food thickness and load still change cooking time.
