Chicken nuggets

Start checking at 11 minutes.

Turn or shake
Shake once halfway
Safety
Chicken nuggets: use 75C in the centre as the practical target. This matches an FSA/GOV.UK temperature-time option of 75C for 30 seconds, but packet instructions and appliance manuals still take priority. Use a clean food thermometer when you can.
Estimated cost
£0.10 per cook, about £0.52 for 5 uses
Oven comparison
A 2500W oven for the original time is roughly £0.18.

This result starts by lowering oven temperature, shortening time, then adjusting for the food, frozen state, air fryer style and model. Cook from frozen in a single layer. Brand alone does not justify a timing change; use the exact model, drawer style and your own repeated results.

Frozen centres need more attention than browned surfaces

Use the frozen setting only when the product is intended to cook from frozen. Spread pieces out where possible and check dense or filled products in the middle. A crisp coating, browned pastry or melted cheese does not prove the centre is hot enough.

Check before using the result

  • Follow packet instructions about defrosting and cooking state.
  • Separate pieces once they loosen and shake or turn them.
  • Use a thermometer for frozen meat products where possible.

Treat every result as a starting point. Check early, leave space for airflow, and use a food thermometer for meat, fish and reheated food.

FAQ

Quick answers

Can every frozen food go straight into an air fryer?

No. Follow the packet when it requires defrosting, a container or another cooking method.

Why can frozen food look done too early?

Strong airflow browns the outside while a dense or filled centre may still be cold.

Should I add extra time for a full basket?

Usually, but shaking and cooking in smaller batches gives a more even result than simply adding time.
